During law school she was awarded two CALI Awards for Excellence, in Estate Planning and Evidence, served as an Editor of the Journal of Environmental Law and Policy, assisted homeowners in the mortgage clinic of Southern Arizona Legal Aid, and represented children in the Family Law Clinic. Melissa is a member of the State Bar of Arizona Probate and Trust Section, National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys, Southern Arizona Estate Planning Council, Tucson Tax Study Group, and Arizona Fiduciaries Association.

During law school he was awarded Best Argument in First Year Moot Court Competition, and served as Managing Editor of the Arizona Law Review. Doug was an adjunct Assistant Professor at the University of Arizona James E. Rogers College of Law and spoke at numerous seminars for the State Bar of Arizona, Pima County Bar, and other organizations. Doug passed away in December, 2015.
